Banks ready for payment operation transactions
Belgrade - National Bank of Yugoslavia started the information system today at 8 AM. That way the commercial banks in Serbia officially took over the payment operations, that were so far within jurisdiction of Institute for Clearing and Payments.
The governor of National Bank of Yugoslavia, Mladjan Dinkic, stated that by Monday, when the payment operations officially start at banks, about 200 000 accounts of legal entities would be opened. That constitutes about 95 per cent of all active accounts in the country. Dinkic said that on Monday the initial status of bank accounts, overtaking the payment operations, would be record 12 billion dinars. That is the result of extremely high liquidity of the national banking system.
Based on regulations of the Law of Payment Operations, adopted in January 2002, the businessmen that do not have new business accounts, will not be able to receive or collect their money, that is, to operate until they open an account in the bank. According to that law, the juristic persons that do not open an account in a bank commit a violation of commercial regulations. The penalties range from 300 000 to 3 million dinars.
