Djelic satisfied with first day of new payment system
BELGRADE – Finance Minister Bozidar Djelic said this evening that he was satisfied with today’s changeover to Serbia’s new payment operations system.
The Payment Operations Bureau ceased to exist today, with its function being taken over by the commercial banks.
The only hitch reported by banks in today’s changeover was large crowds in their offices, largely because today is the last day for payment of tax obligations from last year.
The deputy governor of the National Bank, Vesna Arsic, said that the first day of the new system had gone well, despite fears.
The bank reported today that more than ninety per cent of Serbian firms had opened the accounts required in commercial banks under the new system.
Djelic told media this evening that by 5.30 p.m. today more than 9.5 million dinars (about 156,000 euros) had been paid through the banks.
