Transitional fiscal arrangements agreed
BELGRADE – The National Bank of Yugoslavia will be the primary financial institution in Serbia until new legislation establishing Serbia's national bank is adopted.
One of the MPs charged with drafting legislation to implement the Constitutional Charter of Serbia and Montenegro, Dragan Jocic, spoke to media after today's sitting of the drafting committee.
He said that the meeting had supported a proposal for the Federal Minister for Economic Relations to act as fiscal agent in the transitional period in cooperation with the ministries of each republic.
The role would eventually be taken by the republic finance ministry.
Constitutional Commission co-president Bosko Ristic said that by adopting this proposal, Serbia would be able to regulate monetary matters and conduct its own international economic relations for the first time in fifty years.
The Commission will hold its next sitting in Podgorica tomorrow.
