Dinkic stays: Labus
Deputy Federal Prime Minister Miroljub Labus said today that if Dinkic was replaced as head of the central bank, it would indicate that the institution was no longer independent but was controlled by the Serbian Government.
Speaking to Belgrade daily Glas javnosti yesterday, he described the months-long conflict between Dinkic and the prime minister as showing that the Serbian government was seizing absolute power.
He accused the government of wanting to replace a bank governor who had had great success in stabilising monetary policy while retaining ministers who were incompetent.
Under the new legislation on the constitution, said Labus, all federal institutions would become Serbian institutions.
"There will be no selection procedure for a new governor of the National Bank of Serbia, the current one stays.
"If the parliament has reason to ask for his replacement, then they must specify it," added Labus.
