Dinkic 'not God-given' says Djindjic
NOVI SAD – Senior Yugoslav officials will not automatically keep their positions in the new state of Serbia and Montenegro, Zoran Djindjic said today.
The Serbian prime minister was responding to claims by Yugoslav National Bank Governor Mladjan Dinkic that he would head the National Bank of Serbia after the establishment of the new joint state.
"No one is God-given. If anybody thinks they can automatically move from one position to another, then why should the president of Yugoslavia automatically become the president of Serbia?
"It's because the officials and organs of Serbia were appointed by other bodies, not the federal bodies," said Djindjic.
Responding to Dinkic's accusations about machinations at senior government levels, Djindjic said these were a matter for the public prosecutor, rather than the police.
"Everyone's trying to look like Robin Hood, but Sherwood Forest would be too small for all the new Robin Hoods who have emerged and the results are very slender.
"You could count the number of people who have caught crooks and profiteers on one hand," added the prime minister.
