US releases frozen Yugoslav assets
WASHINGTON – The US Treasury announced today the release of all assets of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia frozen by the administration during the years of international sanctions against the country.
A statement from the Office for Foreign Assets Control described the move as being in line with efforts to assist Yugoslavia in overcoming the consequences of the Milosevic regime.
Deputy Federal Prime Minister Miroljub Labus told Radio B92 today that the release was the result of long negotiations and applied to assets not under the control of the National Bank of Yugoslavia or the state, and which were subject to succession agreements, and assets not owned by associates of the Milosevic regime.
The assets involved total about a hundred million dollars, said Labus.
