No political asylum for bank scammer
BELGRADE - Assistant Yugoslav Justice Minister Nebojsa Sarkic has denied the possibility that Dafina Milanovic, the owner of the collapsed Dafiment pyramid banking scheme, could be granted political asylum in Germany.
Milanovic was arrested last week in Germany and remanded in custody for thirty days, pending extradition proceedings.
Milanovic cannot be granted political asylum “because she is not a political prisoner but an ordinary crook”, said Sarkic.
"Dafina Milanovic was arrested by the German authorities at Yugoslavia’s request and now we are waiting for the proceedings to be completed and for her extradition”, Sarkic explained.
The District public prosecutor’s office has filed a request for an investigation against Milanovic, accusing her of embezzling some 9.5 million euros.
