Vojvodina to get an ombudsman
NOVI SAD - The Vojvodina Parliament has adopted a decision on appointing a provincial ombudsman.
The ombudsman will monitor and control the implementation of laws and protection of human rights, his decisions will not be binding and the only power he will have is that of his authority.
The ombudsman is to be elected within the next three months by the Vojvodina Parliament.
“The people will then have a chance to turn to the ombudsman, in writing, whenever they feel the authorities have violated their rights. The ombudsman will use his rights in the investigation and help with his recommendations”, explained the Provincial Secretary for Administration, Regulations and National Minorities Tomas Korhec.
The ombudsman will have five assistants, three of which will be in charge of children’s and minority rights and equality of the sexes.
