Djindjic: Proposal Of Constitution Next Year In Parliament
Belgrade - Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic said today at the press conference titled ‘Poverty Profile in Serbia’ in ‘Yugoslavia’ hotel that the proposal of Serbian constitution might reach the republican parliament. He added that the adoption of Constitutional Charter would be the first step on creation of the Serbian constitution.
‘After adopting the charter, the assembly councils for constitutional issues and governmental committee should start with the work. Those bodies should coordinate the public discussions and include all social groups that can contribute to creation of constitution’, said Djindjic. He expressed his hope that there would be a consensus next year about three basic issues for creation of the constitution – political structure, market economy and decentralization. Prime Minister estimated that a consensus about the first two questions could be possible in May, while ‘a heated debate was expected about the decentralization’.
‘We should not pass from one extreme, centralized authorities, to another’, said Djindjic. He added that the status of Kosovo and its constitutional definition would be opened as an issue during the creation of Serbian constitution.
