Hotel Metropol in flames
BELGRADE - Fire which started on Thursday morning in Belgrade's Hotel Metropol has been contained.
According to the deputy head of the Belgrade police's fire department, Colonel Dragan Mladjan, no one was injured, and the guests were immediately evacuated.
The attic rooms caught fire and a part of the roof collapsed.
It is assumed that the fire was caused by fault in the electrical wiring.
According to unofficial information from the police's fire department, Metropol's management was warned several years ago to deal with the problem of old wiring in the building.
Twenty-eight fire department vehicles and 88 people were engaged in the action which lasted several hours.
Few days ago police found a large number of weapons on the last floor of the Metropol and four people using the rooms were charged with unauthorized weapon possession.
