Still no conditions for beginning of work of new special forces for fight against organized crime
Changes of Law on criminal proceedings established conditions for application of anti-mafia law. However, the question is whether the special bodies for fight against mafia will start their activity within set deadline.
According to Law, special departments for fight against organized crime will be formed in District Court and District Prosecution in Belgrade. There will be also a special service within Serbian Interior Ministry and a detention unit to District prison in Belgrade. All these bodies and services, should, according to the text of the law begin to act as of January 2003. It is certain as early as today that this deadline is not going to be respected. Conditions for functioning of these new bodies and services have not been provided yet. Even the premises for the judges and prosecutors have not been provided yet.
