400 kilos of imported salami destroyed
BELGRADE - Under a ban on beef import to Yugoslavia, which has been on since the first appearance of the mad cow disease, 400 kilograms of beef salami imported from Slovenia has been destroyed.
The salami was heading for Slovenia's newly opened Merkator shopping mall in Belgrade.
It has been confiscated a few days ago at the Batrovci border crossing.
The salami featured a Serbian-language label claiming it was made of pork meat, while underneath it there was an altogether different Slovenian-language tag revealing it was beef.
Chief federal inspector Radmila Sindjelic said that the salami has been incinerated immediately upon confiscation.
