Parliament adopts budgets without Kostunica party
BELGRADE The Serbian Parliament this evening adopted the draft budget for next year with just 126 of the 250-member house voting for adoption.
Four MPs voted against, but Vojislav Kostunica’s Democratic Party of Serbia, which has repeatedly threatened to block the budget, was not present for the vote.
The session had earlier been adjourned for an hour, with DOS whip Cedomir Jovanovic threatening to replace dissident MPs.
“There is general political agreement on replacing deputies who do not perform their function,” said Jovanovic.
The caucus leader of Kostunica’s Democratic Party of Serbia, Dejan Mihajlov, said that the party’s MPs did not vote because the government had failed to clarify a number of issues it raised during the debate.
