Serbian premier says restructuring public firms government priority in 2003
Belgrade - The Serbian government's priority in 2003 will be the restructuring of public companies in order to separate their primary functions from others which have been added, Serbian Premier Zoran Djindjic said on Friday [13 December].
Djindjic said that the first step in this is the ownership division of these additional companies, to be followed by their privatization, so that "a significant part" of the employees will not be registered as employees of public companies and thus not covered by the republican budget.
The Serbian premier expressed satisfaction over the manner in which the talks on the reconstruction of public companies are being conducted and the cooperation with the trade unions, but could not say exactly how many people would be laid off in such restructured companies.
