Kostunica comment 'unfortunate', says Hague
THE HAGUE – The Hague Tribunal today was quick to respond to Vojislav Kostunica’s remark that Belgrade would no longer extradite suspects because of the court’s failure to
honor bail guarantees.
Tribunal spokesman Jim Landale described the statement as “unfortunate, to say the least”.
He told media that the tribunal had never guaranteed that all suspects who surrendered voluntarily would be released on bail.
The fact that a suspect had surrendered voluntarily was only one of the many factors taken into account by the judges when considering bail applications, said Landale.
The tribunal spokesman added that cooperation with the tribunal was obligatory for any countries who considered themselves part of the international community.
