Teachers strike deal with finance minister
BELGRADE – The Serbian Government today agreed to raise teachers salaries a total of 12.9 per cent by the end of the year.
Finance Minister Bozidar Djelic said that August pay cheques, due in September, would show an increase of six per cent, with the remainder of the increase coming later in the year.
The additional 600 million dinars (about ten million euros) needed to finance the increase this year alone would be raised by reshuffling the state budget.
Djelic added that the latest rise would bring the increase in teachers’ salaries to 27.7 per cent over the two-year period from January, 2001. (Beta)
