Corruption cancelled for lack of interest
BELGRADE – Yugoslavia is not on this year’s Transparency International list which ranks 102 countries by degree of corruption.
The head of Transparency International’s local chapter, Predrag Jovanovic, told Radio B92 that the country was not on the list because the required three independent assessments of corruption had not been made in the past year.
The fact that only two such surveys had been conducted in Yugoslavia last year indicated a lack of interest among foreign investors, he said.
“We are currently less politically attractive and must become more so for foreign investors,” said Jovanovic.
However, the unofficial ranking of countries put Yugoslavia 93rd among 126 countries which, said Jovanovic, was an improvement over the 2000 ranking in which only Nigeria was ranked lower than Yugoslavia.
