Yugoslavia moves to control narcotic sales
BELGRADE – The Federal Health Ministry is to ban the sale of narcotic and psychotropic medications without prescriptions.
Acting Minister Milos Knezevic said today that the drugs involved included several popular anxiolytics and antidepressants.
The reason for the decision, said Knezevic, was the excessive consumption of psychotropic medications in Yugoslavia and the abuse of these drugs over the past twelve years.
“All these medications were issued without prescription and you can find this practice only here,” he added.
Pharmacists issuing the barred drugs without prescription will in future be liable for from three to five years imprisonment. (B92)
