Djelic predicts sales tax cuts
BELGRADE – Serbian Finance Minister Bozidar Djelic said today that changes to the law on sales tax will be discussed in September.
The poor level of financial discipline had not permitted the matter to be resolved earlier, said Djelic, adding that the time was now right to consider lowering taxes to bring them into line with those in neighboring countries.
“The lowering of taxes on sugar and oil will be a kind of reward to the public,” he added.
The minister declined to say by how much the taxes on staples would be reduced. The current sales tax on oil and sugar is twenty per cent. In most countries in the region it is between eight and twelve per cent. (Beta)
