Montenegro proposes payment operations compromise
PODGORICA, The Montenegrin Central Bank has proposed a system for payment operations between Serbian and Montenegro which eliminates a dual-value system being created.
Under the proposal, the central banks of both republics would open accounts to be used for all payments between the two republics, said the head of Montenegro’s central bank, Ljubisa Krgovic in an interview with Podgorica daily Vijesti.
Each day’s transaction balance would be prepared in euros, using the average exchange rate for the day.
In this way, said Krgovic, Montenegrin firms would pay in euros which would appear the same day in the dinar accounts of the payee companies.
“Commercial banks have already agreed to this form of payment operations,” he added. (Beta)
