Canada writes off 155 of 234 million euro debt
BELGRADE - Yugoslav Deputy Premier Miroljub Labus and Canadian Ambassador to Yugoslavia Angela Bogdan signed on Tuesday a bilateral agreement under which Canada has written off to Yugoslavia 156 of the total 234 million euro debt with the Paris Club of creditors, and the rest has been reprogrammed under very favorable terms.
In a statement to reporters in the Federal Palace building Labus specified that, besides the writing off of the debt, Canada has granted to Yugoslavia a very favorable interest rate and repayment conditions for the rest of the debt. Labus mentioned that we as a country are very close to the conclusion of an agreement on reprogramming the foreign debt with all 18 countries of the Paris Club of creditors. The Canadian ambassador assessed that the signing of the bilateral agreement was a significant step towards the normalization of relations of our country with Canada, as well as with the international community and world financial institutions.
