Progress in economic harmonization
PODGORICA – Under an agreement today between the Serbian and Montenegrin governments, Montenegrin companies will be able to purchase goods for import in dinars.
“This is not a dual currency, but merely the possibility for businessmen to pay in the currency of their choice,” Serbian Finance Minister Bozidar Djelic told press in Podgorica.
The deal was struck at a meeting on implementing the economic provisions of the March agreement on future relations between Serbia and Montenegro.
Djelic said the deal would be vital for the development of trade between the two republics and to reduce transaction costs. Montenegro has dropped the dinar as its official currency, and opted for the euro.
The finance minister said they had also agreed that students from Montenegro studying in Serbia would in future be financed from the Montenegrin budget. (Beta)
