Annual inflation as high as eighteen per cent
BELGRADE – Inflation in Serbia is expected to bet between fifteen and eighteen per cent for this year, lower than the planned twenty per cent, the Belgrade Institute for Market Research reported yesterday.
Agency representative Vladana Hamovic said that the increase in prices for the first half of the year was only 4.4 per cent but that pressure on prices was rising.
Of the producers surveyed by the agency, 87.2 per cent said that they planned to increase prices by an average of eight per cent because of the rise in the cost of electricity.
The average net wage for June was 8,993 dinars or 148 euros, while the average pension was 6,193 dinars or 102 euros.
Real purchasing power had increased in July, said the agency, by an average 3.8 per cent for workers and 2.9 per cent for pensioners.
Purchasing power is still relatively low and additional income is needed to cover the standard monthly food basket.
