US backs oil pipeline plans
WASHINGTON – The US government has pledged 200,000 dollars for a study into the possibility of building an oil pipeline from Romania to Italy, running through Serbia and Croatia, Sense news agency reports today.
The US government’s Trade and Development Agency made the announcement at the start of a visit to Washington by a delegation of the Serbian parliament.
Belgrade announced last week it would sign a contract in November for the construction of the pipeline from the Romanian port of Constanta to Trieste in Italy, via Serbia and Croatia.
A statement issued in Washington said the pipeline is one of a number of projects to speed up economic cooperation and the development of the western Balkan states, a region of interest for America’s national security. (Sense)
