Serbian Parliament adopts Broadcast Act
BELGRADE – The Serbian Parliament today adopted new broadcasting legislation after more than a year of delays.
The passage of the law was welcomed by the OSCE, which commended the media experts and international consultants involved in drafting the legislation.
The head of the OSCE mission in Yugoslavia, Stefano Sannino, described the adoption of the legislation as an important step towards reform of public and private media.
The legislation provides for the establishment of a media regulatory body and the transformation of Radio Television Serbia, the former propaganda machine of the Milosevic regime, into a public service broadcast network.
