Construction on Belgrade underground rail next year
BELGRADE – Construction is to begin next year on an underground commuter rail system for Belgrade.
A deal for financing was struck recently in Moscow, construction director Sinisa Nikolic said today, according Belgrade daily Vecernje novosti.
“Moscow Mayor Yuri Luckov will arrive in Belgrade in September with Russian consultants to refine details of the scheme,” said Nikolic.
According to the report, the Russians have agreed to undertake the construction and could also invest in the project in return for a concession on the system.
