Government withdraws draft law on broadcasting
The Serbian government has today withdrawn the draft law on broadcasting from Parliamentary procedures, because of a large number f proposed amendments, deputy Prime Minister Zarko Korac said at a session of the Committee for Information and Culture.
Korac said this delay should last no longer than seven days and expressed hope the essence of the law would not be changed, as it foresees he creation of an independent regulatory body and the transformation of RTS into a public service.
Korac said the Assembly of Vojvodina, DOS caucuses; the Socialist Party of Serbia, the Serbian Unity Party, the Serb Radical Party and individual MPs each submitted several amendments.
Objections and amendments also came from ANEM (Association of Independent Media), the Association for the development of private broadcasting “Spektar”, the Association of electronic media of Vojvodina, G17 media team, the Council of Europe and the OSCE.
