Electricity prices set to rocket 50 percent
BELGRADE – Electricity prices in Serbia are again set to rocket to cover the cost of overhauling the country’s archaic power system, Serbian Energy Minister Kori Udovicki has announced.
"The price increase is a must. All the money will go on the system's reconstruction because if we fail to do that on time there will be no electricity,” Udovicki told TV Palma Plus.
The minister said that prices would rise by 50 percent on average but would still be the lowest in the region.
Consumers were hit by a series of electricity price hikes after democracy took hold in Serbia, with a number of households receiving bills greater than their monthly salaries. (Beta)
