Protesting raspberry growers refuse Djindjic negotiation
UZICE, Tuesday – Protesting raspberry growers who are blocking roads in central Serbia for the second day today have refused an offer of negotiation from the office of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic.

“We are demanding that government representatives come down to the barricades, and we won’t give up our demand for a price of sixty dinars a kilo,” said protest representative Todor Todorovic, of Arilje.

Todorovic added that several thousand growers from the Uzice region had decided against sending a delegation to Belgrade.

Vehicles are banked up for kilometers behind the roadblock towards the central Serbian cities of Uzice and Cacak.

Eyewitnesses say the situation is tense, particularly among truck drivers caught behind the blockade.
