US keeps Yugoslav assets on ice
WASHINGTON, Friday – The US State Department has confirmed a part of the US aid to Yugoslavia, as well as Yugoslav assets in US banks, will remain frozen despite the recent decision of Secretary of State Colin Powell to resume aid to Belgrade.
State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said the US retained the right to control assets held by former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic and his associates.
He denied the decree issued yesterday by President Bush contradicted the decision of his secretary of state. Bush ruled yesterday to maintain a series of special measures against Yugoslavia. (Beta)
