US decision to approve aid to Yugoslavia is assessment of progress, Yugoslav foreign minister
WASHINGTON - Yugoslav Foreign Minister Goran Svilanovic said in Washington on Tuesday that the US decision to approve aid to Yugoslavia is an assessment of the progress made regarding the legal conditions for approving aid, especially Belgrade's cooperation with the war crimes tribunal in The Hague.
"A major issue is behind us," Svilanovic said after talks he and Serbian Premier Zoran Djindjic conducted with US Secretary of State Colin Powell.
Svilanovic told Tanjug over the phone that the talks with Powell focused on the
unblocking of Yugoslav assets in US banks - which is the initial US step following the certification and normalization of trade relations between the two countries, i.e. the allocation of the most-favored nation status in trade which the US could grant Yugoslavia in the fall.
