Dinkic: FRY foreign currency reserves - 2.6 billion dollars
Yugoslav foreign currency reserves are currently at around 2.6
billion dollars. Of that sum, 1.7 billion are reserves of the
National Bank of Yugoslavia, which is enough to secure imports
in the next six months, National Bank Governor Mladjan Dinkic
said.
Foreign currency reserves have increased due to tranches from
the previous and the current IMF arrangements of around 130
million dollars in total, Dinkic said at a press conference
and reminded that at the beginning of reforms reserves were
enough to cover one month’s worth of imports.
The total amount of dinars is around 81 billion dinars and is
covered with foreign currency reserved by more than 140 percent,
which is an added guarantee to the stability of the national
currency, Dinkic said that the amount of cash in circulation
is at around 36 percent, which is still a high percentage.
