Peugeot and Toyota refused to buy Zastava for one dollar
Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic said yesterday in Bor that automobile companies Peugeot and Toyota refused an offer to buy Zastava, “for one dollar”.
“Six months ago, we offered Peugeot and Toyota to buy the Zastava factory for one dollar, and be exempt from profit taxes for ten year. However, they refused and built their plant in the Czech republic”, Djindjic said in talks with trade union representatives from the Bor region.
Djindjic said foreign partners “did not want to risk by investing in Serbia, because of instability in the region, and the inaccessibility of the European market”. According to him, “this would have been an investment worth 500 million Euros”.
