Djindjic on treatment of countries with economic problems
BELGRADE - Serbian Premier Zoran Djindjic has recommended a reform of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) policy for countries that are not directly responsible for their economic problems and said that the principles of macroeconomic stability and market liberalism do not automatically lead to economic growth.
In a text published in the latest issue of the Belgrade weekly NIN, Djindjic analyzed a book by Nobel Prize laureate Joseph Stiglitz, dedicated to the causes and consequences of globalization and said that the author, who is an honorary Serbian government advisor for economic strategy issues, was completely right to criticize the withdrawal of the state from the economy, as one of the key IMF demands.
