Balkan foreign ministers to tackle tobacco smuggling
PRISTINA, Monday – Finance ministers from across the Balkans are to meet in Pristina this week to discuss ways to tackle the tobacco smuggling which is rife throughout the region.

Kosovo governor Michael Steiner announced today that foreign ministers and customs chiefs from Bosnia, Macedonia, Albania, Croatia and Bulgaria would attend the conference along with those from Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo.

“Cigarette smugglers are stealing from the people of Kosovo, and we’re talking big bucks here,” Steiner told journalists.

“It is a problem which can only be dealt with comprehensively at the regional level,” said Steiner, adding that zero tolerance for crime must become the motto for the whole region. (Reuters)
