Djukanovic meets IMF and World Bank officials
Montenegro’s president is to meet representatives of the
International Monetary Fund and World Bank in Washington today.
Milo Djukanovic said he hoped the meetings would clarify how the
agreement on a joint state of Serbia and Montenegro would affect
cooperation with the world’s major lending institutions.
The president said he believed the new state “raises certain issues
of Montenegro’s future cooperation with the IMF and the World Bank.”
Djukanovic attended a meeting yesterday with US Secretary of State
Colin Powell.
“We assessed that the agreement is a good framework for speeding up
economic and democratic reforms, for bringing Montenegro and Serbia
closer to Europe, and that it is an important contribution to the
stability of the region,” he said following talks.
Djukanovic said he had told Powell he would be “truly dedicated” to
implementing the agreement over the next three years. (B92)
