Belgrade refuses Kosovo debt
Tuesday – Belgrade told the UN mission in Kosovo today that it would not accept the privatization of firms in the province that would leave Serbia holding their debts.

"We've just completed talks with UNMIK representatives who presented their privatization concept, which leaves too many issues unresolved, especially the issue of who pays debts of Kosovo firms," Privatization Minister Aleksandar Vlahovic told a press conference.

"There is no way that they can sell property and leave debt payments to us," he said.

The external debt of Kosovo has been estimated at $1.4 million.

Vlahovic said that the status of the property of Serbian firms in Kosovo and any restitution effort had to be brought into line with Serbian laws.

He also called for Serbian representatives in the Kosovo Privatization Agency to take “an active part in the process.” (Reuters)
